Hello you lovely, lovely lot! Just firstly wanted to say a massive thank you for the amazingly compassionate and heartfelt support I’ve received after posting my last blog post- life isn’t the easiest at the moment but I’m trying my best to keep as positive as I can and all your words really do help me in doing this! For today I decided to do a round up of all of my favourite things about 2018 so far- from people in my life to Netflix, it’s all here! It’s been a weird year so far for me but that doesn’t mean it’s all bad- there’s some things that have given me comfort when I’m having a low day or just genuinely make me a lot happier than I would be without it and to help with the whole positivity mindset, I thought it might be useful for me (and hopefully you reading this!) to have a post where there’s just a whole bunch of things to be grateful for.
Thought I’d start with someone who has been a very important part in my whole life so far- my pops! (he hates me calling him that). Dad has been my rock all the way through the hard times in the past few years. Before Mum died, I was always very much a ‘Mummy’s girl’ and she was the person I would tell everything to. Don’t get me wrong, I adored my dad but he was working quite a lot and Mum was always around and so she was just my go-to person. However, in the past five years or so, Dad has definitely become my go-to guy- from little tiff’s with Will to days where I miss Mum the most- Dad is always there to give me a big bear hug and do everything he can to make sure I’m okay and for that I am so grateful. I don’t want to go tooo emotional in this post so I’ll just say that I love him a lot and he will forever be one of my favourites!
Something that I’ve only started properly using this year (I know, can I even be called a teenager in this day and age?!), but something that has become super useful if I just want to chill is Netflix. Will and I have a joint account (commitment right? haha) which works out half the price for both of us and means we can both enjoy it even when we’re miles apart. We also love watching it together and are super faithful about saving to watch a new episode until we’re with each other again, which has been slightly hard at times but it’s always worth it when we get to cuddle up and binge watch all we haven’t seen! A few programmes I’ve been loving (and so has Will) are Riverdale, Queer Eye and (our favourite guilty pleasure) Project Runway (which probably doesn’t need explaining!). Riverdale is super popular right now and by missing a couple of episodes every month we have to avoid every Riverdale-related post, picture and article on Instagram and Facebook to avoid those pesky spoilers. If you don’t know, Riverdale is a show based on the ‘Archie Comics’ which have been around since the 1940’s. It follows the main characters but, of course, the Netflix show is a lottt more dramatic than the original comics. The characters have all the struggles of teenage life with a bit on the side- such as murder, political issues within the town and constant feuds between different families. Another show I’ve been loving is Queer Eye as it really opened my eyes to the gay community and how just a little bit of kindness can go such a long way to completely change people’s lives for the better. Antoni, Karamo, Jonathan, Bobby and Tan make up the ‘Fab Five’ in this series who travel around Georgia, Atlanta, to male individuals who need a lil’ help with making their lives the best they can be. It’s such an uplifting show and while people may have different opinions about the way it is presented, overall it just lifts my mood and makes me realise that there really are some incredible people out there willing to help.

This might seem like a bit of a weird one but something I’ve been loving recently is clothing that just exudes positivity. Someone that partly inspired me to look out for such items is the wonderful Emily Coxhead. Emily is the creator of the newspaper The Happy News which is a newspaper that focuses solely on reporting only the positive bits of news as it is so easy to get a bit low reading all the negative things that happen in the world in regular newspapers. Emily, for me, is such a ray of sunshine and although I was too late in subscribing for the most recent edition, I’ve already signed up for the next one as from all the photos I’ve seen of it, it just looks like the happiest bunch of stories, quotes and articles I’ve ever seen! Anyway, I digress. Basically, Emily always dresses in a way which, to me, shows her sunny personality- rainbow cardigans, statement jumpers, t-shirts with positive slogans on and more make her wardrobe hard not to admire and smile at! So, in order to help with keeping myself positive, these past couple of months I’ve been trying to look out for items that do the same thing. While I might not be as confident as Emily when it comes to mixing and matching colours, my goal is to by summer, have a wardrobe that lifts my mood and makes me excited for the day ahead. (p.s. go check out Emily’s book and the rest of her lovely items!)

As a girl who used to looove her matte foundation, matte concealer, matte powder and just matte EVERYTHING, I’ve now completely switched and jumped onto the dewy bandwagon. For me, completely matte makeup just didn’t let my skin breathe and basically looked awful on my textured skin but I didn’t care at the time as I just wanted to be as shine-free as possible. Seeing as my skin couldn’t breathe it used to break out, causing more texture and shine, which I then tried to cover up more and it just ended up being a vicious cycle which ended up me feeling so under-confident about my skin and using a lottt of foundation on a daily basis. Nowadays, I embrace a bit of shine and wear a lot lighter bb cream or foundation if i’m wearing makeup. At the moment as I’m home a lot, I go makeup free around 4-5 days a week which just really helps my skin to breathe. When I do wear makeup, I go for a light-medium coverage foundation (such as Rimmel‘s Wake Me Up foundation or Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum Foundation) and a fuller coverage concealer under my eyes (these bags are cray at the moment) and on any blemishes- which luckily is a lot fewer than I used to have! I set my makeup with powder but don’t usually retouch throughout the day and just let my natural skin come through which I’ve found makes me look a lot more natural and healthy. So yeah, dewy makeup is definitely my way to go and I’ve embraced it even more over the last few months which makes me, and my skin, super happy. (I’ll be putting an everyday makeup routine blog post up soon so keep your eyes peeled for that!)
Something I like to do 2-3 times a week is go on my Pinterest and pin loads of encouraging quotes (especially regarding mental illness), typography posts, travel inspiration photos and ideas for style, makeup, food, cocktails and everything else! I like to do this regularly as a) it’s very therapeutic and b) looking back at the encouraging posts I’ve pinned to my boards can really help me if I’m feeling a bit lost and am looking for some words of wisdom. Will and I also use Pinterest to send encouraging quotes or love quotes to each other every now and then, to cheer the other one up or to just bring a smile to their face. We’ve done this ever since he sent me a picture of a quote about me being beautiful (I think I cried lol) and it’s just something that helps remind each other how much we love them when we haven’t seen in each other in a while.

Of course something that has been a major positive thing in the past few months is my Blog and my Instagram account which goes alongside it. Although I’ve had a couple of people be horrible (I know them in person so it’s not too surprising), I have met SO MANY lovely ladies that have given me so much support, love and encouragement through my journey so far. Considering it’s only been a couple of months since I started (I started at the very end of February), I’ve gotten to know so many lovely people and have had my eyes opened to the overwhelmingly supportive online community of bloggers. I feel so lucky to have such a lovely audience already and can only hope that the months (and maybe years!) that follow are just as lovely, if not lovelier!
So there’s a few of my favourite things (apparently I’m in The Sound of Music haha) about 2018 so far. It’s been a tricky year up until now but these things have made hard days that little bit better. Of course I have to mention Will for being an absolute gem but I don’t want my blog to be alll about our relationship (love you though), although I am suer grateful for everything he does for me each and every day. Thank you guys for being so fab, I’m super excited to continue this blogging journey!
Hope you have the most wonderful week,
All my love,
